GUIDELINES
AND PROCEDURES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT
-
AND
APPOINTMENT OF ENDOWED FACULTY POSITIONS

1. Purpose
The purpose of endowed faculty positions is to
recognize the interests and contributions of benefactors while enabling the
recruitment and retention of outstanding and distinguished faculty. Endowed
faculty positions may be used to honor outstanding faculty members of California
State University, San Bernardino or to attract distinguished scholars to this
institution.
2. Establishing Endowed
faculty positions
| a. |
Endowed faculty
positions must be consistent with the mission and academic plan of California
State University, San Bernardino. |
| b. |
While endowed
faculty positions are normally established within a department or program
and may be multi-disciplinary in scope, for administrative purposes
such positions shall be assigned to an existing department. Endowed
faculty positions will be established by the President or designee following
consultation with the appropriate School Dean, department chair, the
faculty of the department involved, the Vice President for University
Relations, and the Foundation for CSUSB. |

Endowed
faculty positions will be established only after the necessary funding
has been appropriately secured. Such funding shall be administered by
the University Foundation for CSUSB. |
3. Types of Endowed faculty positions

a. |
Endowed Chair.
An endowed chair is an endowed faculty position supported entirely by
donor(s). As a rule this type of endowed faculty position would carry
the name of a particular donor. The funding source shall be sufficient
to provide for the basic salary plus benefits and such things as office
space, clerical assistance, supplies, technical support, research equipment,
travel, seminars/conferences, computer software/data collection, library
support, or any other suitable needs. |

Endowed Professorship. An
endowed professorship is a position supported partially by donor(s).
The funding source shall be sufficient provide for a salary augmentation
of an existing faculty position as well as expenditures for such things
as clerical assistance, supplies, technical support, research equipment,
travel seminars/conferences, computer software/data collection, library
support, or any other suitable needs beyond the norm for a regular
faculty member. |
4. Appointment of Faculty
to Endowed Positions
| a. |
The appointment of faculty
to endowed positions shall follow policies and procedures applicable
to the appointment of tenure-track faculty members, i.e., the position
should be advertised, applications should be reviewed by a faculty
committee, and recommendations made to the President or designee. |
The following criteria shall
be used in the selection and appointment to an endowed faculty position:
(1) Accomplishments will
bring great credit to the University.
(2) Nationally or
internationally recognition for scholarly contributions.
(3) Receipt of extensive
peer recognition for achievements in teaching.
(4) Outstanding performance
of service associated with the individual's principal professional associations.
(5) Noteworthy dedication
to standards of excellence in all endeavors.

The period of
appointment to an endowed faculty position shall be three (3) years,
renewable once without any commitment regarding the award of tenure
or subsequent appointment to a department. Subsequent appointment to
a department and/or the award of tenure for those recruited outside
the University may be possible but only by following established policies
and procedures for faculty recruiting, appointment and evaluation. |
| c. |
During the period of appointment,
faculty in endowed positions shall carry out teaching, professional
growth, and service activities as specified in the letter of appointment. |
5. Report
Annually, faculty in endowed positions
shall file a report of activities and accomplishment to the appropriate School
Dean and a detailed financial report on the expenditure of funds to the Foundation
Office.
